Yokohama is one of the most important global tire manufacturers, with a history of over a century and a strong presence in the international automotive industry. The factory in Drobeta Turnu Severin, Romania is a strategic point in the production network, having an essential role in supplying products to European markets. In a continuous production environment, maintaining equipment within optimal parameters is critical to support quality, efficiency, and safety.
The Consultech team successfully completed a complex maintenance project for the 8 cells of the cooling towers at this facility. The intervention aimed to restore the optimal performance of the equipment, reduce operational risks, and optimize long-term operating costs.
In the industrial cooling industry, issues such as leaks, corrosion, or component wear are not uncommon. However, when they occur, they must be treated as major priorities. Water losses, environmental risks, hazards for personnel (such as ice formation in the cold season or the appearance of wet and slippery areas), and increased costs for water treatment chemicals are direct consequences that can affect not only profitability but also operational safety.
Our intervention included a complete set of works, carried out in a carefully planned sequence:
- We dismantled the tower fill (honeycombs and drift eliminators) and performed chemical washes with compliant solutions that do not affect the material from which the towers are built.
- The belts of the 8 fans were replaced, the blade angles were checked, and greasing was performed.
- We also checked the nozzles and water distributors, the motor terminal boxes, and where necessary, we replaced the inspection windows and drift eliminators.
- The intervention ended with a final wash and with greasing of the bearings and bushings, for smooth and vibration-free operation.
Safety is our absolute priority
A central element of every Consultech project is safety. For us, safety is not a secondary detail, but an absolute priority. All operations were carried out with strict compliance to HSE standards, and our team wore full protective equipment: helmet, goggles, gloves, safety footwear, and harnesses for working at height. Through these measures, we protect not only the health of our colleagues but also the smooth progress of the project, eliminating risks that could delay or compromise the works.
Premium components for long-term performance
To ensure the long-term performance of the cooling towers, we used premium components from Brentwood Industries, a benchmark name in the field. CF1900 Cross-Fluted Film Fill was chosen for its optimal contact surface and its ability to improve heat transfer. Inlet Louvers were installed to protect against UV rays, control splash-out, and optimize airflow, while CF80Max Cellular Drift Eliminators were integrated to reduce water loss and ensure compliance with anti-Legionella standards.
Project results
Cooling towers brought back to optimal parameters, with increased thermal efficiency, reduced operational risks, and optimized OPEX costs. For Yokohama, this project was not just a maintenance task, but a strategic investment in the continuity and safety of production.
At Consultech, we believe that the success of a project is measured not only in figures and performance, but also in the way we manage to combine technology, safety and quality of execution. Contact us for a full audit of your processes.
