Modern data centers host thousands of servers. All this processing power produces an immense amount of heat, heat that must be dissipated in high-performance heat exchangers. Such a situation must be avoided because it can lead to downtime, limited performance, or even permanent damage to equipment in extreme cases.

 

The cooling system represents a significant part of a data center’s energy consumption. Evaporative cooling towers offer an efficient solution to reduce this consumption, thus contributing to lowering the PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) index and operating costs. Studies show that evaporative cooling systems can reduce energy consumption by 30–50% or even more, if implemented correctly.

 

In practice, this translates to significant savings on electricity bills and a reduced facility carbon footprint. For example, instead of operating the cooling compressors at maximum load 24/7, a data center with an efficient heat transfer system for chiller condensation can transfer a large part of the heat dissipation load to these towers, which use only fans and pumps, consuming much less specific energy for each MW of dissipated heat.

 

The principle is simple: installing a system of water- or glycol-cooled chillers, together with cooling towers, is much more efficient than using only air-cooled chillers.
