We are pleased to announce a new strategic partnership with Innomotics, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of electric motors and drive systems. Through this collaboration, we have become an authorized distributor of Innomotics products in Romania, with the right to represent, quote and install the full range of equipment dedicated to the water and wastewater industry, as well as other industrial sectors relevant to our portfolio.
Why Motors and Drives Matter More Than They Appear
In a wastewater treatment or water treatment plant, electric motors and frequency converters are usually not the first equipment operators think of when it comes to optimization. And yet, they sit behind almost every critical process: pumping, aeration, compression, mechanical transport, mixing. Whether we are talking about raw wastewater pumps, activated sludge blowers, air compressors, high-pressure pumps for reverse osmosis or large-scale irrigation systems, all of them are driven by an electric motor.
Globally, the water and wastewater sector spends approximately 1.6 billion euros annually on motors and drive systems. Growing pressure around energy efficiency, increasingly strict environmental regulations, climate change, aging infrastructure and the need to digitalize processes create a continuous demand for modernization, including at the level of drive equipment.
Field reality confirms this trend: a large share of pumping installations in Romania and the wider region still operate with old motors, low efficiency and no speed control, generating disproportionate energy costs compared to what current technology can deliver. A motor with IE4 or IE5 efficiency class, paired with a frequency converter, can bring energy savings of 20 to 50% in variable-load applications such as pumps, fans and blowers, compared to a conventional direct-on-line motor.
This is the equation Innomotics solves through technology, and one we now bring to our clients across Romania and the region.
Innomotics: A Leader with 150 Years of Tradition in Electric Drives
Innomotics is not a new name in the industry. Its roots go back to 1866, when Werner von Siemens discovered the dynamo-electric principle, the foundation on which all modern power electronics was built. Over the years, the company has accumulated unique expertise: the first Tsingtao motor factory (1903), still operational today; the launch of the first medium-voltage LCI converter in 1969; the introduction of the H-Compact motor in 1988; the launch of the first IE4 motor in 2013; the SIDRIVE IQ digital platform in 2017. In 2023, Innomotics officially separated from the Siemens Large Drive division, becoming an independent entity with its own identity.
Today, Innomotics operates factories on three continents and a sales and service network across dozens of countries, serving diverse industrial sectors: mining, oil and gas, water and wastewater, chemicals, marine, energy, automotive, intralogistics, aluminum, and pulp and paper. The portfolio includes low-voltage motors, medium-voltage motors, high-power frequency converters and integrated drive systems, with efficiencies reaching up to 98%.
The Innomotics Portfolio Available Through Us
Low-Voltage Motors
The Innomotics LV motor range covers a wide spectrum of applications, from the most straightforward to the most mechanically and environmentally demanding.
The GP (General Purpose) series is designed for general-purpose applications, with an aluminum housing for reduced weight, power ratings between 0.09 and 45 kW, and IE3 and IE4 efficiency classes. They are ideal for small and medium-power centrifugal pumps, fans and compressors in drinking water and industrial treatment plants.
The SD (Severe Duty) series is built for demanding industrial environments, with a robust cast-iron housing and rated power up to 1,000 kW. It handles high mechanical loads, vibrations, humidity and thermal fluctuations. Available in IE3, IE4 and, in the permanent magnet rotor version, even IE5 efficiency, making it one of the most efficient asynchronous motor solutions on the market.
The XP (Explosion Proof) series is the range dedicated to explosive atmospheres, a category frequently encountered in raw wastewater pumping stations, anaerobic digestion tanks and gas or sludge installations. XP motors are certified for Ex ec and Ex de zones, with a standardized platform that simplifies both commissioning and maintenance.
Geared motors (SG) come in four configurations, helical, bevel, worm and parallel shaft, and are suited for applications where precise speed and torque control is essential, including sludge conveyors, bar screen systems or dosing installations.
MD integrated systems represent a more advanced approach: an IE5 permanent magnet synchronous motor combined with a frequency converter mounted directly on the motor, with power ratings between 0.37 and 22 kW. This compact solution is ideal when installation space is limited and significant energy savings at partial loads are required, which is a common scenario in pumping stations with large flow variations.
Medium-Voltage Motors
When the required power exceeds LV motor capacity, the Innomotics HV range comes into play, with direct applications in large pumping stations, high-capacity desalination systems and pumped-storage hydropower plants.
Innomotics HV C (compact) offers rated power up to 2.5 MW, voltages of 2 to 11 kV and efficiency of up to 98%. The compact design allows integration into space-constrained existing installations, a significant advantage when modernizing pumping stations without fully reconfiguring the civil infrastructure.
Innomotics HV M (modular) is the solution for high-power applications, with rated powers up to 29 MW and voltages of 3 to 13.8 kV. The modular construction, with a welded steel housing for larger frame sizes, allows customizable configurations and ensures reliable, long-lasting operation. Motors in this range are designed for a service life of over 30 years.
High-Power Frequency Converters
Perfect Harmony GH180 is Innomotics’ flagship converter for medium-voltage applications, based on an innovative architecture of low-voltage cells connected in series to generate the medium-voltage output. The power range is 180 kVA to 24.4 MVA, with input voltages of 2.3 to 11 kV. Key advantages include an integrated transformer, sinusoidal output voltage quality compatible with any motor type including older motors, fault tolerance through cell redundancy and automatic bypass of a failed cell during operation, and advanced digital monitoring covering power cell condition, thermal monitoring and remote monitoring. The GH180 is already deployed in reference projects across the region, including at Azomureș (11 units, 630 to 1,800 kW) and at Termoelectrica Chișinău (6 units, 630 to 3,200 kW).
The complementary GH150/SH150/GL150/SL150/GM150/SM150 ranges cover specific power, cooling and configuration requirements for various industrial scenarios.
Concrete Applications in the Water and Wastewater Sector
The ecosystem of a treatment plant or water supply system involves several categories of processes, each with specific drive requirements.
Desalination is perhaps the application with the highest performance and efficiency demands. High-pressure pumps for reverse osmosis operate at pressures of hundreds of bar and require extremely reliable motors and frequency converters with impeccable output voltage quality. Innomotics is already present in landmark desalination projects worldwide, including the Casablanca project (over 125 MW, over 200 Mm³/year, set to become the largest renewable energy-powered desalination plant in Africa) and West Galilee (10 GH180 converters, 100 Mm³ of annual fresh water supply).
Drinking water treatment involves intake pumps, booster pumps and filtered water pumps, all areas where SD and HV C motors paired with frequency converters for pressure and flow control deliver both energy efficiency and precise process control.
Wastewater treatment is the area with the most varied and demanding requirements: raw wastewater pumps (where XP motors are frequently required due to potentially explosive atmospheres), transfer and sludge pumps, air compressors, activated sludge blowers and circulation pumps. The SD range with IE4/IE5 efficiency delivers the best ratio between acquisition cost and total lifecycle cost.
Water transport and distribution through long-distance pumping systems, between treatment plants, reservoirs and distribution networks, benefits most from VFD technology, which allows automatic flow adjustment to demand variations, eliminating pressure losses through throttling valves and significantly reducing energy consumption compared to fixed-speed pumping.
Large-scale irrigation: in the reference project at the Hammam Station in Egypt, Innomotics delivered over 54 vertical motors with up to 14 poles, providing 1.5 Mm³/day of water for extensive agricultural areas in the Western Delta, completed in a record execution time of 24 months.
What We Bring to Complement Innomotics Technology
Having access to a quality product is not enough on its own. In the Romanian market, the most common issues with motors and drives do not stem from the intrinsic quality of the equipment, but from incorrect sizing, poor integration or neglected maintenance. This is exactly where our role comes in.
Technical consulting and correct selection. Our team of engineers analyzes the real requirements of each installation, flow rates, pressures, load profiles, environmental conditions, Ex categories, and selects the right motor and converter for each application, not simply the most available or easiest to deliver.
System design and integration. A motor or converter does not operate in isolation. We ensure complete integration into the electrical and automation scheme of the installation: control panels, protective devices, bypass circuits, SCADA interfaces, PLCs and digital communication.
Commissioning and training. Our service team of over 15 technical specialists handles the startup and commissioning of Innomotics equipment, verification of operating parameters and training of the client’s operating personnel.
Maintenance, OEM spare parts and emergency response. Authorized Innomotics service centers work exclusively with original design and manufacturing documentation, using only genuine parts. We ensure spare part availability from local stock, a fleet of service vehicles ready for rapid response and a 1,000 m² warehouse with critical consumables and components.
Upgrades and retrofit. Not every project involves new equipment. Innomotics offers 1:1 modernization solutions for old motors, electrical and mechanical adaptation for replacing an existing motor with a new, higher-efficiency one, without modifying the existing infrastructure. We manage these projects from the initial assessment through to commissioning of the new equipment.
A Partnership Built on Shared Values
