Efficient wastewater management is one of the major challenges for communities and industry. In recent years, Romania has made important steps in the modernization of water infrastructure, but the success of this process depends on the integration of reliable and innovative technologies, capable of reducing operational costs and ensuring environmental protection.
In this context, Consultech has successfully completed its first turnkey project with Huber equipment, an important milestone for the expansion of the portfolio of technological solutions dedicated to the mechanical treatment of wastewater.
The project at the Câțcău Wastewater Treatment Plant in Romania
At the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Câțcău, Cluj County, Romania, the Consultech team delivered, installed and commissioned a HUBER Pumping Stations Screen ROTAMAT® RoK4, intended for the mechanical separation of residues from wastewater.
The equipment operates at variable flows between 45 and 50 l/s and ensures efficient separation of solid particles through a 6 mm self-cleaning screen, protecting the downstream equipment and increasing the overall performance of the plant.
Through this implementation, Consultech has demonstrated that it can deliver integrated solutions that combine state-of-the-art technology with practical expertise, ensuring a rapid, safe and efficient commissioning.
Why was the HUBER Pumping Stations Screen ROTAMAT® RoK4 chosen for this project?
ROK4 is a compact vertical screen, designed especially for pumping stations, narrow channels or works where space is limited.
Operation
The wastewater enters an optimized intake chamber, provided with an integrated step to prevent deposits. From here, the flow passes through a perforated screen, where coarse residues are retained. A vertical screw with wear-resistant brushes cleans the screen and gradually lifts the retained materials.
During the process, the residues are dewatered and compacted, reducing the volume by up to 40% DS, after which they are discharged into a container or into an endless bagging system, which minimizes odors and eases the handling of the wastes.
Key technical benefits
- Automatic solids separation – eliminates the need for manual cleaning.
- Protection of pumps and downstream equipment – reduces unplanned shutdowns and maintenance costs.
- Robust stainless-steel construction – high resistance to corrosion and long lifespan.
- Compact and flexible design – easily installed even in existing structures.
- Autonomous operation – fully automated system, without the need for continuous staff presence.
- Option for outdoor installations with anti-freeze protection – suitable for Romania’s climate.
Applications
ROK4 is widely used in:
- pumping stations,
- retention basins and lagoons,
- pretreatment steps of municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants.
Through these characteristics, the equipment responds exactly to the needs of Romanian water infrastructure, where reliability and low operating costs are essential.
The impact of the project
The integration of HUBER ROK4 at the Câțcău Wastewater Treatment Plant brought immediate benefits:
- Protection of equipment – retained solids no longer reach the biological step, which reduces the risk of breakdown.
- Increase of process efficiency – the wastewater flow is treated more evenly, which optimizes the plant’s performance.
- Reduction of operational costs – fewer unplanned interventions and longer lifespan of equipment.
- Safety and ergonomics – operators no longer need to perform frequent manual cleanings; the Consultech team also ensured complete training of the staff.
These advantages confirm that the choice of the ROK4 equipment was a strategic solution for the treatment plant and for the local community.
